Getting Started

Before getting started, F&M likes to gather detailed insight into a project before developing a full proposal. Sometimes this can happen over one conversation and site visit. However, clients with projects of a certain size may complete a questionnaire to help us gain a complete understanding of the project including their ideas of home, expected scope of work, experience with the design process, and overall financial budgeting.

General Project Phases

Design Phase: The design phase of a project is where the majority of F&M’s work takes place. Depending on the complexity of the project, this phase may include as-built drawings, schematic drawings, design development drawings, permit drawings, and detailed construction drawings.

Bidding Phase: The bidding process can be unpredictable depending on contractor availability and current pricing of materials and fixtures. If a client requests our services during this phase, we can request bids from a number of contractors, handle price negotiations, and make drawing changes to reduce or expand the scope of work.

Construction Phase: Once a contractor has been hired, clients vary widely in how they would like F&M to be involved throughout construction. Some clients prefer to serve as their own superintendent and request we review or solve problems only when called upon. Other clients prefer we be actively involved during construction to provide clarity and mitigate potential issues that naturally arise throughout the process.
